BUSINESS IS GREAT: NEW PACKAGE OF SUPPORT FOR HOME BASED BUSINESSES

homeworkerLast year, Government’s Small Business:GREAT Ambition paper outlined its commitment to make it easier for small businesses to start and grow.  It also committed to simplifying government support.

Today at the Home Business Summit, hosted by Enterprise Nation at Somerset House, Matthew Hancock MP, BIS Minister for Business and Enterprise, gave Government backing for a new package of support, aimed at improving the business environment for home based business [Follow the link for the press notice - https://www.gov.uk/government/news/backing-for-home-based-business-boom] . Measures include:

  • changing the law, so landlords needn’t fear agreeing to home business use undermining their residential tenancy agreement;
  • clarifying that most home businesses shouldn’t have to pay business rates;
  • launched a new Government Home Business Checklist and,
  • new concise guidance that answer key questions when starting a business from home (www.enterprisenation.com/homebusiness).

Alongside this, Enterprise Nation launched the biggest ever survey of home based businesses, sponsored by Direct Line for Business (www.enterprisenation.com/homebusiness), that aims to undercover the real picture of home businesses in the UK, to better understand the emerging home business landscape, to help develop policies, products and services that best support this growing community.
