How Women Can Develop Their Leadership Style In Business

It has never been so important for women to up-skill whilst developing their leadership style and soft skills. in today's ever evolving business and corporate world. As the our professional world adapts and changes, so too must we to stay ahead.

Numerous research shows that women continue to be underrepresented in key leadership positions ('the only one' is real) across a wide range of sectors and their progress is still slow.

However, we have to recognise that the experiences of Black Asian and ethnic minority women in the workplace are complex and nuance. They still face unique challenges that require a multifaceted and adaptable approach if women wish to lead with more confidence. Let's look at how that can happen.

Leading, But Not Quite Leading Right!

Women's leadership styles have been the subject of extensive research by McKinsey & Company, a global management consulting firm..

To their findings, women leaders often exhibit distinct characteristics that are highly valued in today's business environment as the shift is for more soft rather than hard skills to navigate upcoming change.

Why?

For instance, women are more likely to adopt a collaborative and inclusive approach to leadership.

They are more likely to engage in dialogue and seek input from others before making decisions, which can lead to more innovative and effective solutions.

This style of leadership is particularly important in diverse teams where multiple perspectives and viewpoints are needed to solve complex problems.

Their research found that female leaders tend to be collaborative and they are skilled at developing and nurturing relationships.

Female leaders prioritise empathy, active listening and emotional intelligence, which can lead to higher levels of trust and loyalty.

This, in turn, can translate into better business outcomes, as satisfied customers and engaged employees are more likely to be loyal and productive.

In addition, their research found women leaders were more adaptable and willing to experiment with new approaches and strategies.

By embracing the strengths of female leaders, organisations can create more inclusive and innovative cultures that drive growth and success.

So How Does This Benefit Female Leaders?

Understanding and developing one's leadership style is essential in today's fast-paced and ever changing business world.

It allows leaders to identify their strengths and weaknesses and use them to their advantage.

By exploring their leadership style, leaders can begin to understand how they interact with others, their decision-making processes and how they approach problem-solving.

This awareness enables them to develop their skills further and refine their approach, ultimately leading to improved performance and outcomes.

For female leaders, examining their leadership style is especially critical. The business world is rapidly transforming and women must ensure their leadership style is fit for purpose in this ever changing environment.

They must recognise their unique strengths and contributions and find ways to leverage them to achieve success.

By doing so, women leaders can position themselves as valuable assets to their organisations as well as advancing their careers.

There's no denying that developing one's leadership style has become a critical component of success in today's fast-paced business world.

Leaders who are aware of their leadership style and continuously work towards improving it can become more effective and influential in their roles, resulting in better outcomes for their organisation.

This approach can also lead to increased job satisfaction for the leader and improved relationships and productivity with team members.

Furthermore, as organisations become more diverse and complex, leaders who can understand and adapt their leadership style are in high demand.

By embracing new approaches and strategies, leaders can navigate complex situations and drive success for their organisations, opening up new career opportunities and enabling them to take on new challenges and responsibilities.

Studies show that developing one's leadership style is essential not only for personal growth but also for the benefit of the organisation and its overall success.

Conclusion

Developing a collaborative and inclusive leadership style is crucial for women in business and corporate settings.

Women who understand their strengths, values and communication style can build credibility and influence in the workplace, navigate the unique challenges they face, build effective teams and create a positive work culture that promotes inclusion and diversity.

This is especially important for GenZ females, who bring a unique set of values and expectations to the workplace, including a focus on technology, work-life balance, diversity and inclusion and collaborative leadership. By embracing these differences and adapting their leadership style accordingly,

Therefore, it is highly recommended that women take the time to develop their leadership style and build the skills and competencies needed to succeed as leaders in these industries.

Finally, while intergenerational issues can present unique challenges for leaders, the development of one's leadership style is a continual journey that requires a commitment to self-reflection, learning and growth.

Effective leaders must remain open to feedback and adapt to changing circumstances, including shifting generational dynamics.

By investing in their own personal and professional development, leaders can cultivate the skills and traits necessary to succeed in any environment and build meaningful relationships with team members of all ages.

Ultimately, developing a strong leadership style is a lifelong pursuit, and one that can yield tremendous rewards both personally and professionally.
