Welcome Back

Thank you so much for joining in our Sadness Diet and the journey to happier times.

In everyday life, we realise that there is a time for every purpose under heaven, their will be times when we feel sad and times when we feel happy.

Today we are going to look at the Six Ways to Wellbeing.

“It’s about finding that thing that you enjoy doing and doing more of that, rather than forcing yourself to do something that actually you are not going to be able to do.” - Tony Coggins, (DIY Happiness).
Feedback from Yesterday

Live It Well – Six Ways to Wellbeing

A while back ago, one of the organisations that I work with in Kent, The Grand, introduced me to Live It Well. which is promoting better wellbeing for the residents of Kent and Medway.

Even if you don’t live in these areas, I find the resources excellent and it is helping myself and so many other people to improve our wellbeing which can help us cope with periods of sadness.

The Six Ways to Wellbeing are small changes you can make to your life which can make a big difference.

The Six Ways to Wellbeing are:

  1. Connect

  2. Give

  3. Take notice

  4. Keep learning

  5. Be active

  6. Care for the planet.

They can lift your mood and help you to cope with life gets stressful.

Brief Explanation of The Six Ways to Wellbeing

Connect… With the people around you. With family, friends, colleagues and neighbours. At home, work, school or in your local community. Think of these as the cornerstones of your life and invest time in developing them. Building these connections with support and enrich you every day.

Be Active… Go for a walk or run. Step outside. Cycle. Play a game. Garden. Dance. Exercising makes you feel good. Most importantly, discover a physical activity that you enjoy; one that suits your level of mobility and fitness..

Give… Do something nice for a friend, or a stranger. Thank someone. Smile. Volunteer your time. Join a community group. Look out, as well as in. Seeing yourself, and your happiness, linked to the wider community can be incredibly rewarding and will create connections with the people around you.

Keep Learning… Try something new. Rediscover an old interest. Sign up for that course. Take on a different responsibility at work. Fix a bike. Learn to play an instrument or how to cook your favourite food. Set a challenge you will enjoy achieving. Learning new things will make you more confident, as well as being fun to do.

Take Notice… Be curious. Catch sight of the beautiful. Remark on the unusual. Notice the changing seasons. Savour the moment, whether you are on a train, eating lunch or talking to friends. Be aware of the world around you and what you are feeling. Reflecting on your experiences will help you appreciate what matters to you.

Care.. look after your community and the world. Make small changes to your life that will reduce your energy use, recycle more, leave the car at home, use low energy light bulbs, small steps to a greener life can make a difference.
